20th June 2015: Carvalho linked, Wilshere wanted & Alexis on target for red hot Chile

Afternoon all. Not a great deal going on today so this post will be briefer than Dan Smith’s Premier League career.

That most reliable and respected of publications The Sun, report Arsenal are bidding/have bid £28.5 million for Sporting Lisbon’s defensive midfielder William Carvalho.

Arsenal links to the player are nothing new. His name crops up every now and again, usually in and around the time he’s due to feature on British television for club or country. Ahem.

And so it has this time as his performance – which I didn’t catch – for the Portugal Under 21 team against their English counterparts in the Euros on Thursday night, had swathes of spectators drooling like Frank Lampard in a bakery.

“I’ll take five steak pasties, four trifles, eight doughnuts and a gallon of cola”

That said, however tenuous the report, with Geoffrey Kondogbia being heavily linked with a move to Milan, that’s one fewer reported rival for the privilege to partner/compete with Francis Coquelin as Arsenal’s midfield ‘Detective’.

Moving on and The Mirror report Man City will now bid £40 million for Jack Wilshere if they fail to persuade Paul Pogba to return to Manchester. That’s £10m more than was reported two days ago, so by this time next week, I fully expect a City bid of £75m being Outlooked over to Highbury House.

Finally, AleXis Sanchez was in Copa America action earlier this morning and began and finished a terrific Chile move to put them two nil up over Bolivia after 37 minutes. It  was a brave, beautifully placed diving header – the kind we see far too rarely these days. The hosts ran out five nil winners and Sanchez was withdrawn at half-time. You can watch all the goals here.

Told you it would be brief, see you on Sunday.
